St. Anthony Gives To The Needy as Part of Homecoming
Activates

St. Anthony Junior Senior High School is
the first school to celebrate homecoming week on the Valley
Isle. Each day the students wore “dress-up”
– blue & gold; rainbow; clique day, homecoming shirts;
sports jerseys; and each day there was a different activity
as part of the festivities. Homecoming week began
with over half the student body attending the Homecoming Dance
on Saturday, September 20. Monday’s activity was
a Powder Puff Football game with the Seniors teaming up with
the Juniors against the Sophomores, Freshman and Rookies.
The seniors/juniors came away with the win!
On Tuesday, the Student Government wanted an activity where
they could help the community in some way. The activity
they came up with was to have a Canned Goods building contest
with divisions not only receiving homecoming points for their
creations but also by the number of canned goods brought in
(proteins counting double points). The rookies (grades
7 and 8) took the prize for both their Spaceship creation
and the most number of cans donated--425 with 325 being protein!
The recipient of the canned goods was the
Family Life Center in Kahului—a women and children’s’
shelter that also provides hot meals and food/clothing every
Wednesday to the community—they are currently serving
1,200 people. Present at the Canned Goods Building competition
were Executive Director, Maude Cumming and Outreach Worker,
George Kaimiola. They went back to the shelter on Tuesday
with 1,100+ cans of food! The Family Center was very grateful
stating that their shelves were close to empty before the
donation. Guest judges included Paulette Cardoza, Matt
Paet and Ari Collins.
On Wednesday, the boys cheerleading competition
was won by the junior class beating out the seniors by a mere
2 points. Thursday the entire student body attended
a Homecoming Mass, and Friday the school will have the traditional
SongFest Divisional Competition.
On Saturday, St. Anthony will celebrate
with the presentation of their Homecoming Court during half-time
at the football game against Kamehameha Maui at War Memorial.
The School is inviting all alumni
on the island to come support their alma mater.
