The administration at Saint Anthony is pleased to announce two new innovations  that should substantially improve services delivered to all of our students during the coming school year of 2009-2010:

1. Saint Anthony will introduce and utilize the Naviance College, Career, and Academic Planning System throughout the 2009-2010 school year.   Perhaps the premier online service of its kind worldwide, Naviance is currently utilized by over 3,000 schools in some 61 countries, and by over half of U.S. News and World Report’s “Top-100 High Schools in America”.   Currently, of the almost 100 secondary schools operating in Hawaii, only Punahou, Hawaii Baptist Academy, Maryknoll, and Mid-Pacific utilize Naviance;   Saint Anthony would be the first school on Maui to employ Naviance.

Essentially, Naviance is a “one-stop shop” when it comes to college and career planning.  It provides online proven personality testing designed to match individual student interests with possible careers and jobs. Then, it aligns career interests with possible college matches drawn from over 1000 college and university choices across the United States, via direct contact with their respective admissions offices.  Naviance then provides a “turbo-tax”-like online ‘Tuition Coach’ designed to make financial planning for college much easier, as well as state-of-the-art online SAT test preparation support that are both meant to greatly enhance the college planning process.  And to top it off, Naviance works with the Common Application as well as colleges and universities to streamline the online application process, helps students build their college resumes, as well as to stay on top of all the latest news applicable to the college planning and application process.

Saint Anthony college guidance counselor Michael Weddington is working with Naviance to make this powerful system available to each and every Saint Anthony student and their parents. The system should be operational and available online by the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year.  Mr. Weddington will arrange and announce several college planning workshops during the week (including during the evening) during early Fall Semester of 2009 to properly train students and parents as needed.  For further information on Naviance, please go to:  www.naviance.com

2. Teacher training and support will be provided to all Saint Anthony Teachers, Administrators and Staff Members by one of America’s most renowned academic training companies:  The Quantum Learning Network.  Based in California, Quantum Learning provides teacher and learner training on the following topics, among others:

·         Showing students how to study and learn more effectively, for every subject matter.

·         Improving reading comprehension, writing skills and other essential learning skills.

·         Making teaching and learning more enjoyable.

·         Strategies for making every classroom a safe and efficient learning environment.

·         Instilling teachers and students with greater motivation and confidence with respect to learning.

·         Improving test scores and test performance.

·         And much more!

Quantum Learning has been in existence since 1982, when it began applying its methods with a summer educational program called Super Camp. Super Camp has been attended by over 38,000 children from throughout all 50 states and in over 70 countries. According to Quantum Learning’s own surveys, of the over 10,000 teachers training in Quantum Learning who have evaluated the program, the training workshops have received overall average scores of close to 9.5 on a scale of 10.

Per its promotional literature, Quantum Learning is defined as “integrating best educational practices into a unified whole, utilizing research and best practices over the past 25 years. This synergistic approach to the learning process covers both theory and practice, proven to increase achievement and improve students’ attitudes toward learning. These integrated, comprehensive programs turn abstract theory into practical applications that can be used immediately in the classroom.”       Two full-day workshops will be provided by one of Quantum Learning’s most distinguished instructors to all Saint Anthony teachers, administrators and staff members on both Thursday, July 30, and Tuesday, January 5th at our campus library,  as a means of supporting Saint Anthony’s overall mission of providing a high-quality Catholic education in the Marianist spirit to the young men and women of Maui.
